“Sun Goes Down” - A Lighting Time Code by Eddy Sound
When the COVID-19 pandemic breached the production industry in mid-March 2020, Eddy Sound suffered catastrophic losses. Little did we know that 3 months later, we would have more self-guided creative projects under our belt than in the last 3 years. With so much free time on our hands, we were able to expand our skill sets, networks, and connections. Within the first few weeks of the pandemic it became clear we had two choices: sit at home depressed over the current realities of the world, or get out and do something amazing. We decided to embrace our creative side and see what could come of it.
This is the project that kicked it all off. While it was not our first time coded light show, it was the first time we truly expanded our creativity and looked to create something more than cool lights: we wanted beautiful lights. We listened to the track intentionally, trying to put the artist’s music and lyrics into an integrated visual story. One that might show the listener what the song could mean. This is one reason we use the hashtag, #HearWithYourEyes. It’s our nod at audiences encountering a complete atmosphere at events supported by Eddy Sound. We believe all live events should be a full sensory experience. With a brand new lighting rig and nothing but time, we spent over 30 hours in the Eddy Sound Lighting Lab perfecting every look, until we came out on the other side with the final product.
For this first track, we used “Sun Goes Down” by Jim Yosef & Roy Knox. We initially heard Sun Goes Down the day it released on NoCopyrightSounds, and we could immediately feel the creative juices flowing. The song was the perfect mix of beauty, melody, and intensity, allowing us to show off our products and talents in their full light (pun intended).
