What is the Lighting Lab?
In its infancy, the Lighting Lab was a way for our lighting designers, programmers, and event technicians to have a hands-on experience with the various equipment owned by Eddy Sound. It was originally designed for internal use only - testing of equipment, troubleshooting issues, training on programming methods, and a space to demo equipment from manufactures we were considering to purchase. Using pre-visualization software is amazing, but we found the excitement and joy of hands-on experiences was integral to our team’s development.
In August of 2019 we moved into our current location. With that move, the lighting lab jumped substantially in capacity, morphing to its current size in January of 2020. We had a record setting number of shows booked and the lighting lab was a place we could prep for them. The lab was scheduled to be dismantled in April of 2020 so the equipment could go out on the road; off to serve our many clients. On March 13, 2020 everything changed. The COVID-19 pandemic hit the live event industry. We essentially lost 56 shows in 2 days as large gatherings were banned throughout much of the United States. To say we were stunned is an understatement. Many people “pivoted,” we like to say we innovated. This is the history of the #LightingLab.
How to use the Lighting Lab.
Music Videos
By using the same expertise we apply to live events, we’re able to make a “concert like” experience under the Lighting Lab structure. From a fully time coded show to busking throughout your song, we’re able to provide an overwhelming feeling of energy in the room. Lighting, lasers, and special effects are used in a way that complement the emotions behind your track. But what about music playback? You’ll feel the music through our Martin Audio WPM line array. Creating a music video at Eddy Sound is definitely an experience like no other.

Photography Studio
It began with a simple Instagram message to a notable Denver area photographer. A few weeks later, we had our first meet-up at the Lighting Lab consisting of 5 photographers and 2 models. We instantly saw the power of our production lighting inventory being used in imaginative ways to capture stunning images. It’s a location most creatives can’t find in Colorado. We provide both the on-stage glamour and back stage look and feel within the Eddy Sound Warehouse. The Lighting Lab can be ready within minutes for a professional shoot to take place.
The amazing creatives who have visited the Lighting Lab over the last 6 months have flooded Instagram with the stunning images they’ve captured. Want to see what can be created at Eddy Sound? Search our location within Instagram and you’ll get a glimpse.
A Creative Space
What we feel makes the Lighting Lab so special is all of the unique ways it can be utilized. To date, it’s been used by aerialists, dance companies, non-profits, faith-based entities, musicians, videographers, photographers, and models. Even with these diverse uses, we feel this is only scratching the surface of what can be accomplished in our space. What makes the Lighting Lab so versatile are the clients who come to use it. We value partnering with and working alongside our customers to to assist them in making their project vision come to life.

Lighting Lab Rental FAQ
Q: What do I get when I book the Lighting Lab?
A: When you book with us you get a lighting technician on site to operate the equipment, the space itself for your allotted time (the time starts when you arrive and continues until you are out of the facility), and whatever lighting rig is currently hanging in the lab at the time of your rental.
Q: How does booking the Lighting Lab work?
A: At the bottom of this page you can fill out the project contact form and we will reply to you with a quote and availability for the space. We require a 2 hour minimum to book, but find that 2 hours is usually the minimum amount of time photo shoots and music videos need.
Q: What can I expect to see in the Lighting Lab?
A: The lab always hosts a lighting rig with at least 40 lighting fixtures, a massive truss structure to support the lighting, and a sound system that adds to the atmosphere of the space. We also add creative touches so that every setup feels unique. Bathrooms and changing spaces are on-site as well.
Q: Can I host events at this space?
A: As of 2020, our space is not open for public events. It is a closed studio for creative projects. The maximum allowed attendance for projects is 10 guests. We require administrative approval at least 7 days in advance for any larger groups. This policy will be strictly enforced and adhered to.
Q: When is the Lighting Lab available for rent?
A: While the space itself is available to book at any time during the day, the lighting is most effective in the evening due to an abundance of skylights above the lab. Anytime after sundown is the optimal time. Though if you are just looking for an industrial backdrop, you may book the space during the day.
Q: What do I need to bring to the Lighting Lab?
A: For photographers and videographers, we recommend that you bring whatever equipment you need: softbox lighting, strobes, tripods, etc. While we do have front light available, we’ve found that most creatives get the best results from using their own lighting instruments to front light their subjects.
Q: What custom options are available?
A: If you have specific lighting requests, please contact us with your project's needs and we can prepare an individualized quote. Some available options include stage decks (solid black and clear acrylic), upshot foggers, arena foggers, CO2 jets, Sparktaculars, strobes, UV lighting, mirror balls, and lasers.
Q: How does the space always look different?
A: We aim to change the Lighting Lab setup every two to three weeks. Aside from ourselves getting tired with a single look and feel, we want to provide a different experience for as many people as we can. We strive to ensure that no two projects are identical.
Q: How can I use the Lighting Lab?
A: If you can visualize a creative project in the space, we can make it happen. Whether it is simply using the space for an industrial atmosphere or utilizing our wide array of lighting fixtures and equipment, we want to help bring your creative vision to life.
Q: Can the Lighting Lab be moved?
A: All of our gear is mobile. Coming from the live production world, we are professionals at set-up and striking our gear off-site. Please note, this requires more logistics and planning, therefore, an additional charge. Please contact us for more information on providing our services at another location.
